It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John L. Spires Jr., who departed this life on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, in Florence, South Carolina. A Funeral Service conducted by Belk Funeral Home will be held in his honor at Dominion Church on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Prior to the service, family and friends are invited to a Visitation at the same location beginning at 12:00 PM. Burial will immediately follow at Darlington Memorial Gardens.
He was born on June 19, 1943, in Columbia, South Carolina, to John Spires, Sr. and Annie Faust Spires. Mr. Spires spent the last 24 years of work as a truck driver for Vulcraft. A lover of classic cars, John owned and operated OK Auto Sales on the corner of S. Charleston Rd and McIver Rd. (John also loved motorcycles, just not riding them!!) John was a beloved husband, father, and friend to many. In his younger years, he loved to spend time fishing.
Most importantly, John loved the Lord and wanted to tell everyone about Jesus. He and his wife were instrumental in organizing and running the food and clothing ministry at Gospel Temple. Unashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, John tried to win souls by witnessing to people on the streets of New Orleans. He was also active in prison and nursing home ministries. Mr. Spires was a member of Dominion Church, where he served as a benevolence care pastor. John is survived by his devoted wife, Linda K. Spires, children: John L. Spires, III Randall "Ty" (Mary) Spires, and Teresa (Michael) Yarborough, Michele Spires, chosen son David (Michele) Stiltner. His special “adopted” daughter, Jennifer Ojeda that he sponsored through school and college from Nicaragua. His grandchildren: Casey, Chelsey, Tyler, Brianne, Chandler, Cierra, Ethan, Joel Estrada Spires and several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews
John was preceded in death by his parents John Spires and Annie Spires, his siblings: Walter “Winky” Spires, Sarah Spires, and Annie Evelyn Simpkins. His first wife Patricia Spires.
John L. Spires Jr. leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will always be remembered. He touched the hearts of those who knew him, and his spirit will forever remain alive in their memories and hearts.
