John Derrick Joye who was fondly known as Jake, has passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2026. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 8th at Lamar Memorial Cemetery at 11:00am.

Jake was born on March 25th, 1942, in Lamar to the late James Derrick Joye and Lee Ila Windham. After finishing high school, he attended Clemson University and became a mechanical engineer. He worked consulting with Carolina Engineering Solutions. He also served his country in the USA Air Force where he ranked as a Staff Sargent at the time of his discharge. Jake was a faithful member of Mitchel Road Presbyterian Church of Greenville for 45 years, where he also served as an Elder. He stayed busy and didn’t retire until the age of 82. He met and married the love of his life Mary Hamiter Hills. They’ve been married 59 years.

Jake is survived by his wife Mary, their children: Denise (Ted) Cook of Greenville and James (Kathleen) Joye of Greenville. As well as their grandchildren: Katie (fiancé Andrew White) West, John (Laura) West, Megan (Sean) Sorbin, and Mackenzie Joye. Also, his brother Ricky Joye of Greenville.
