John Richard Godley

John Richard "Dick" Godley, age 77, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family. A visitation will be held in Belk Funeral Home Lamar on Friday, August 23rd from the times of 11:00am until 12:00pm, with a graveside service following in Lamar Memorial Cemetery at 12:10pm.  The family will be receiving friends at the home of Mr. Godley at 1641 Cashua Ferry Road in Darlington.

John was born in Alexandria, VA on February 10, 1947, son of the late Matticus Godley and Catherine Godley. Mr. Godley served two tours in Vietnam during his time in the Air Force. He worked as a pipefitter by trade and held the position of foreman.

Surviving Mr. Godley is his children, "Charlie" Charlotte (Steve) Austin of Savannah, GA, Marisa Barrentine of Savannah, GA, and Sean Godley of Knoxville, TN; his grandchildren, Savannah Nikolakakos, Isabelle Rivas, Jessica Godley, Stevie Jayne Austin; great-grandchildren, Braden, Michael, David, and Eliana. He is also survived by many other extended family members.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jane Pope Godley, his daughter, Kim Rivas, brother, Jimmy Godley and his canine companion, Bubbles.
