Joe Douglas Dunegan

Joe Douglas Dunegan, affectionately known as "Papa", age 81, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 23rd in the Lamar chapel at Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service, and other times at the home, 1909 Una Rd. Lamar. Joe was born in Oklahoma City on January 12, 1938, and was raised in Texas. He was the son of the late Joe Cullen Dunegan and Velma P. Horner Dunegan. Joe served in the U.S. Navy. Joe worked for NASA for two years, and then worked in the computer industry for 40 years. He attended Mt. Elon Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Patsy Taylor Dunegan of Lamar; children, Ann (Dan) Askey of Newnan, GA, Renee (Andy) Waldrop of Jackson, GA, Willene (Bob) Durham of Tampa, FL, Patricia Toney of Jacksonville, FL, John (Mary) Wilson, Jr. of Augusta, GA, Troy Dunegan, and Joey Dunegan, both of Dallas, TX. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Rita Hutchinson, and brother, Jack Dunegan. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jayme Dunegan; and two siblings. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
