James Alfred Smith, affectionately known as Smitty by many, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 23rd from 6:00pm until 8:00pm in Belk Funeral Home. In honor of Smitty feel free to come dressed casual and in Garnet and Black.
James was born in Florence, SC on November 16, 1978 to Jane Boyette Harrington and the late Alfred Henderson Smith. He graduated from Wilson High School and found his career as a very talented welder. James had many hobbies that he enjoyed doing, some of which were golfing, fishing, playing baseball, fossil finding, playing pool and listening to music, especially the grunge genre. He was an avid South Carolina Gamecock fan.
Surviving James is his mother, Jane Harrington, his wife for over 20 years, Ashley Watkins Smith, his children, Caylen Smith, Kendall Smith and Bailey Smith, grandchild, Livia Grace Rodriguez. He is also survived by his siblings, Jimmy Mozen (Mitzi) of Florence, Martha McKenzie (Randy) and Donna Myers (Douglas) both of Effingham, his nieces and nephews, his many canine companions and his special dog, Tucker, and his special Aunt, Julia Courtney and the Dize family.
In honor of Mr. Smith, memorials may be made to the Darlington County Humane Society at P.O. Box 1655 Hartsville, SC 29550.
