James R. Smith

James Renee Smith, age 70 died Wednesday, October 13, 2021. Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Friday, October 15th in the Lamar chapel at Belk Funeral Home with burial following at Lamar Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday at the funeral home in Lamar.

Born on November 22, 1950, James was the son of the late Robert Smith and Anna Harless Martin. He was a four year veteran of the Army National Guard; and then was employed with Becton Dickinson in Sumter in 1980 until his retirement. James loved fishing and would fish in many tournaments and fishing clubs. He enjoyed working and taking care of his family.

Surviving are his wife, Sissy Smith of Mayesville; two sons, Jim (Felisha) Smith and Steven Lee Smith, both of Mayesville; five grandchildren, Phillip, Christina, Jamie, Robert and Chris; two brothers, Robert (Beth) Smith and Steve (Pam) Smith; a half-brother, Tom (Tina) Young; his step-mom, Carolyn Smith; a special nephew, Roger Dale Smith, Jr.; a number of nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, Rosie who was always by his side.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half-brother, Kenneth Young.
