James D. Minton

Darlington - James D. Minton, age 88, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20th at Newman Swamp Southern Methodist Church in Lamar, SC. The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 p.m. Saturday at Belk Funeral Home in Lamar. A graveside service will take place Monday at 10:00 am in Florence National Cemetery. Born February 8, 1929 in Obion, Tennessee, James is the son of the late Fisher Minton and Emma Lea Nichols Minton. He served in the United States Air Force, and then worked for the U.S. Postal Service while continuing to serve in the United States Air Force Reserves for over 30 years. James was a member of Gideons International and Newman Swamp Southern Methodist Church where he served in many capacities. He also served as a board member and treasurer of the Eastern Annual Conference of the Southern Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Dale B. Minton of Darlington; his children, James D. Minton Jr, Tammy (Asa) Lynne Minton Gitter of Los Angeles, California, and Neil (Stacey) Minton of Florence; his grandchildren, Riley James Minton and Lola Grace Minton. Always surrounded by his loving animals, surviving are Shelbe, Stinker, Maggie and his grandkitties, Moonstone and Opal.
