James Allen Mcgee

April 7, 1960 — October 11, 2023

James Allen McGee, 63, of Effingham passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday October 11, 2023.

James was born on April 7, 1960 in Williamsburg County, son of the Late Christine Turner McGee and Horace Willie "Tink" McGee. He worked in Construction his entire life being taught by his late father-in-law, Jasper Singletary. He loved working with his hands and admiring the finished project. James has worked with many of the Top Construction companies in Florence and has been featured in numerous housing magazines through the years. He loved to tinker in his building and enjoyed putting together model cars as well as hunting and fishing. His love of hunting was always a joke within his family as he loved the peace and quiet of the woods rather than actually doing any hunting. More than anything James loved his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Jasper and Eunice Singletary, brothers Willie McGee Jr and Joe Turner; sisters, Mary Jo Rowell and Donella Turner and his great grandson Waylon James Goll.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Stella Singletary Chavis McGee; son, Chris (Angie) Chavis of Olanta; daughter, Tara (Brooks) Barrineau of Olanta; grandchildren Brittany Hamilton, Christina (Brandon) Goll, Elizabeth Chavis, Tal Gerald, Jackson Barrineau, Anna Grace Gerald and Taylor Barrineau,  great grandsons Carter Wade Goll and Tate Gerald; brother, Jody McGee; brothers-in-law, Wayne Rowell of Pamplico, Spencer Singletary of Effingham and A.L. Singletary of Marion; sister, Linda (Carol) Adams of Winnabow, NC; Sisters-in-law, Paula (James Bennie) Hicks of Effingham and Annette McGee of Gainsville, FL, numerous nieces and nephews along with so many friends throughout the construction business in the Florence, Conway and Myrtle Beach area and his faithful dog, Blue.

A Memorial Service will be held 3:00pm Friday October 13th at the Lynches River County Park Community Building in Coward, SC. The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm prior to the memorial service at the Community Building.
