James John Gaul, Jr.

James "Jim" J. Gaul Jr., 83, of Lamar, SC, passed away on August 5, 2026. Services will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at Newman Swamp United Methodist Church beginning at 2 pm with military honors followed by visitation and the funeral service.

Jim was born on May 9, 1943 to James J. Gaul Sr. and Eleanor Brophy Gaul. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Later, he joined the Oakland, NJ police department retiring with the rank of lieutenant. Jim loved animals and rescued many throughout the course of his life.

Jim is survived by his wife Catherine Howell Gaul, step children Georgenanne (Roger) Ames, Connie (Alan) Gauthier, Cathy (Barry) Evans, Edna Mae (Marvin) Howell, James (Iris) Howell, grandsons Arick Ames and Shane Howell. He is also survived by siblings Ellie Locker, Patty Harden, Kevin Gaul, Rosemary Gaul, Peggy (Larry) DeMaio, Maryjane (Joe) DeSanto, Dennis (Janet) Gaul, Tim (Kathy) Gaul, Loretta Mulligan, John Gaul Sr., Monica Gaul and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise C.Gaul, his parents, his siblings Michael Gaul, Kathy (Danny) Coley, Tom (Linda) Gaul and Tony Gaul as well as his stepson Alan (Libby) Howell.
