Jacqueline "Jackie" Gurnett Smith, age 80, passed away at her residence surrounded by family on Friday, January 26th. A memorial service will be held in Southside Freewill Baptist Church on Saturday, February 3rd at 2:00pm, with a visitation taking place one hour prior at 1:00pm in the church.
Jacqueline was born in Lakeland, Florida on April 22, 1943, she is the daughter of the late John Dunlap Gurnett and Dorothy Starbuck Gurnett. Jacqueline went on to meet the love of her life, Leland Smith and they would later get married in 1961 in Bambridge, Georgia. She loved her job as a teacher in the Florence County School District at Florence Christian School where she worked for many years. She was a strong born again Christian and knew when she passed away that she would go on to be with her Lord and Savior along with her son they lost at birth. Mrs. Smith was a member of Southside Freewill Baptist Church and always enjoyed working with children at any church she attended.
Jacqueline is survived by her husband of 62 years, Leland F Smith, children, Leland G. Smith, Julie Thomlinson, Scott F. Smith, grandchildren, Richard Smith, Christopher Smith, Matthew Smith, Joseph Thomlinson, Zachary Thomlinson, and Dustin Smith. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Bryson Smith, Brianna Smith, and Brayden Smith.
The family would like to thank Deanna Richardson and Mary McElveen of Pruitt Hospice of the PeeDee for the excellent care they gave Mrs. Smith.
