Heyward W Gainey, Jr.

Heyward “Prune” Gainey, Jr, 79, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 20th, 2026 at 4:00 pm at Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 3:00 - 4:00 pm at the funeral home Saturday.

Prune was born January 30th, 1947, in Hartsville, SC, to the late Heyward W. Sr. and Betty Watkins Gainey. He served his country in the Navy and had attended Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Gainey was a talented carpenter, working in Jacksonville, FL for many years building stairs and staircases. He used his talents to help build rental properties on his family’s land. Prune was also liked old cars and working on them.

He is survived by his daughter, Catina Gainey, granddaughter; Noelle Harrell, nieces; Amy (Dan) Gainey Zeznanski and Kim (Timmy) Gainey Eaddy, nephew; Larry Gainey Jr.Prune was preceded in death by his parents; Heyward W. Sr. and Betty Watkins Gainey, brothers; James “Jimmy” Gainey, and Larry Gainey, Sr.
