Herbert L. Martin

Herbert L. Martin, age 88 passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016. A graveside service will be held 4:00pm Tuesday, March 8th at Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home of Roy and Terry Martin, 1004 Whippoorwill Dr. Darlington, SC 29540. Born July 25, 1927 in Dillon, Herbert was the son of the late Gladys Mallard and Steven "Bud" Martin. He served his country in WWII in the U.S. Navy, and then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years until his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Darlington. Surviving are his son, Roy (Terry) Martin of Darlington; his grandchildren, Justin (Hannah) Martin of Columbia, Melanie (Charles) Hinson of Darlington, and a special young lady who was like a granddaughter to him, Kate Mahoney; his great-grandchildren, Lily Hinson, Annika Martin, and his sister, Inez Richardson of Marion. Preceded in death are his wife, June Hatchell Martin; his brothers, Raymond L., Steve, Gerald, and Carl Martin, and his sister Wilma Stephens.
