Herbert L. "Cotton" James, age 80, passed away Monday, June 17, 2018. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 22 in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home, with burial following in Indian Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-3 Friday at the funeral home. The family will be at the home of Ed and Sylvia James, 432 Sylvia Ln. Darlington, SC 29532. Born in the community of Indian Branch in Darlington County on January 18, 1938, He is the youngest son of the late Edward L. James and Bessie Flowers James. Cotton as he was known by all who knew him worked as a city policeman and also worked for Clanton's Auto Auction. He was also a very good baseball player in his youth. He was a loving dad with a kind and gentle spirit, and a friend to many. Surviving are his daughter, Brigette James Wagner and her husband Dave Wagner; his son, Robert James; grandchildren, Hope Wagner Pierson and her husband Seth Pearson, Faith Wagner, Robbie James, Jordan James, Daniel James; brother, Edward L. James Jr. and his wife Sylvia James; Nephew, Ricky James and his wife Cheree M. James and family; niece, Debbie James Suggs and her husband Glenn Suggs and family; great-nephew, Spence Dudley, Amber Bone, Dr. Ryan James and his wife Kelsey James, Mark James and his wife Jessica James, Josh Suggs and his wife Becky Suggs, and Tyler Suggs; his great-great-niece, Perielle Suggs; the mother of his children, Peggy James of Winter Haven; and special friends, Deborah and Steve Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, infant Mildred James, and Melba James Dudley; nephews, Terry Dudley and Jimmy Dudley; and his brother-in-law, N.G. Dudley.
