Helen Windham Jordan passed away into her Heavenly home around noon on Tuesday, December 10th, 2019. She was able to celebrate with her late husband, Walter Lee "WL" Jordan, in Heaven, as December 10th was his birthday.
It's difficult to put into words all that she was. When Jesus talked about the meek shall inherit the earth that describes her perfectly. Helen never met a stranger and was willing to love anyone and everyone she ever met. She would literally give you the shirt off her back if she thought you needed it. Helen was such a fantastic representation of unconditional love. She just loved loving people, much in the way her mother demonstrated that same love to her while she was growing up in Lamar, South Carolina.
At the tender age of 16, Helen married WL and shortly thereafter traveled with him to Germany. This was the first time she had ever left the state of South Carolina let alone the United States. Her first child, Joann, was born in Germany. A few of years later they returned to SC and Jon Edwin was born in Bishopville, SC. The next year Justin was born in Florence, SC. WL and Helen were not yet done though, as about 14 months later, on the island of Guam, they had their last child, another boy, Jeffery Reid.
Since WL was in the Air Force, they traveled to several locations with their four children. They had homes in Sumter, SC; Everett, Washington; Winston Salem, NC; and Myrtle Beach, SC where he retired from the service. They returned to their childhood home of Lamar, SC, where they lived together until January 27th, 2006 when WL passed away.
About a year later, Helen left South Carolina to go and live with Justin and his family in Dacula, GA. She has lived in Georgia for the past 11 years, meeting and being a blessing to a whole new group of people in Georgia. Since her youngest son, Jeff also lives in the area, Helen was able to be near 2 of her children and 6 of her grandchildren during the last 11 years of her life.
Helen loved so many people and was very crafty, making scarfs and jewelry for all her new friends and family. She was an active participant in the Lawrenceville, GA Senior Center attending events several times a week. Helen's involvement at the Senior Center created opportunity to fellowship with people from her generation with many shared life experiences. She was a big hit there, as she had a passion for baking, which she passed down to her son, Jeff. She would often recruit him to make treats to share with her fellow Sr. Citizens, especially on her friend's birthdays. If her son was not available, she would go to a grocery store and purchase a birthday cake for her friends.
Helen was a very special Lady and God was really showing off the day HE created her. She was an inspiration and treasure for all of her children and grandchildren. She was a great example of what it means to love unconditionally, never looking for anything in return, but just excited to share the Love of God with everyone HE brought into her path. She had a huge heart and a warm and gentle spirit that would absolutely light up every room she entered.
She will be missed by all who knew her and will be waiting in Heaven to greet many of them of whom she shared the love of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
I will close with her favorite Bible passage in both the King James Version and The Message.
A Psalm of David (KJV)
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
HE maketh me to lie down in green pastures: HE leadeth me beside the still waters.
HE restoreth my soul: HE leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for HIS name sake.
Yea, though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for THOU art with me; THY rod and THY staff they comfort me.
THOU preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: THOU anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
A David Psalm - Psalm 23 (The Message)
God, my shepherd! I don't need a thing.
YOU have bedded me down in lush meadows, you find me quiet pools to drink from.
True to YOUR word, YOU let me catch breath and send me in the right direction.
Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I'm not afraid when YOU walk at my side.
YOUR trusty shepherd's crook makes me feel secure.
YOU serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies.
YOU revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing.
YOUR beauty and love chase after me every day of my life.
I'm back home in the house of God for the rest of my life.
