Gus Derminer Hudson

Augustus "Gus" Derminer Hudson, age 71, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024. A visitation will take place at 1:30pm in Welsh Nech Baptist Church , Society Hill , S.C. on Thursday, June 27th. A funeral service will be held in the church at 2:00pm, with burial immediately following in the church cemetery.

Gus was born in Bennettsville , S.C. on October 26, 1952, and is the son of the late James Calvin Hudson and Beverlie Marcia Derminer Hudson. He graduated from West Forsyth High School in Winston-Salem , N.C. in June, 1971, and later studied at Horry-Georgetown Technical College . He was a steel worker doing welding for much of his life; but also worked in food service and automotive/heavy equipment service/repair. He was adventurous and inquisitive, and among the many things he did, he solo sailed his Tartan sailboat from St. Petersburg , Florida to Charlestown , S.C. and wrote computer software exploring how to improve program performance. After retiring, he enjoyed restoring old vehicles and researching mysteries.

Surviving Gus are his siblings, Marcia H. (Joseph Levsen) Cope of Rural Hall, NC, James "Jim" ( Rose Marie) Hudson of Seneca, SC, Eugenie "Jenny" H. Spradley of Thomasville, NC, Rosa Lee H. Heiden (Eric) of Florence, S.C., Douglas "Doug" (Barbara) Hudson of Titisville, FL and many nieces and nephews.
