Grace (Freeman) Blackman

Grace Freeman Blackman passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 29, 2024 surrounded by her family at McLeod Hospice House. A visitation will be held at Darlington Presbyterian Church in the McCown Building from 1:00pm until 2:00pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. A funeral service will take place at 2:00pm in the church sanctuary. A private family burial will follow the service at Society Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Grace was born in Darlington County on August 12th to the late Chap and Edith Freeman. Mrs. Blackman worked as an RN at McLeod for many years and later worked for the postal service as a rural mail carrier for Darlington County. Grace grew up as a member of Presbyterian Church of Society Hill and was a Sunday School teacher, leader of Women of the Church, chairman of circle groups, and was ordained as a deacon in the church. She was elected and ordained as an Elder in New Hope Presbyterian Church in Gastonia. Later in life Mrs. Blackman joined Darlington Presbyterian Church and faithfully served her church throughout her membership.

Surviving Grace are her children, Jenny (Billy) Harrison, Tommy (Dawn) Blackman, Danny (Debbie) Blackman, Andrew (Sharon) Blackman, her grandchildren, Rebecca Ramsey, Elizabeth Blackman, Kelly Capps, Dana Stroupe, Ashley Blackman, Chris Harrison, Greg Harrison, Sonya Driggers, Mandy English, Chad Rogers. She is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren, many great greatgrandchildren, her brother, C.C. (Jill) Freeman, and a sister, Pat (Vernon) Watford of Hartsville.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William "Billy" Blackman and her two brothers, Glenn Freeman and Herbert Freeman.
