George W. Dudley, age 94, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 22nd in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home, with burial following in Florence National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30am-1:00pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
Born January 30, 1923, George is the son of the late N.G. "Tony" Dudley and Eura Mae Stewart Dudley. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 2ndArmor Division under Gen. George Patton in North Africa, Sicily; Rome-Arno, Naples-Foggia, Italy, France, and Germany. He received a good conduct medal, a campaign medal with three Bronze Stars and an American Defense Service Medal. He worked as a mechanical inspector for Celanese in Rock Hill for over 30 years. During retirement, he and his wife Thelma, founded and operated Grandmas Old Fashion Dumplings for a number of years.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma "Miz McKay" Dudley of Darlington; his children, Marilyn Dudley-Rowley of the Kingdom of Tonga, Gwendolyn Dudley Teague, Victor Willard Dudley, and Jacquelyn (Brian) Dudley Mosely, all of Rock Hill; his grandchildren, John-Roby Michael (Marti) Teague, Noah Mosely, Elise Mosely, and Luke Mosely; his great-grandchildren, Anthony Teague and Alice Teague; his step-children, Maggie (Glenn) Kirven of Effingham, Wayne (Connie) McKay, Edward Prendergast, both of Florence, Michael (Sonya) Prendergast of Timmonsville, a number of step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Paul Dudley of Darlington, Ray (Arleen) Dudley of Florence, Wade Dudley of Darlington, and Ruth D. Iseman of Hartsville.
He was preceded in death by his step-son, Stephen Dewey McKay; his siblings, Christine Iseman, Trubee Dudley, Martha Iseman, N.G. Dudley, and James "Buddy" Dudley.
