Freddie B. West, age 86, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024 surrounded by family at his residence. A visitation will take place in First Church of God Darlington from the times of 2:00pm until 3:00pm on Monday, September 16th, followed by a funeral service at 3:00pm. Interment will follow the funeral service in Florence Memorial Gardens.
Freddie was born in Kershaw County on October 26, 1937 to the late John Matthew West and Juanita Truesdale West. Freddie served his country in the United States Army. After returning home from the service, Freddie worked at Dixie Cup as an Engineer and later helped design the shredder at Darlington Shredding. Mr. West was a faithful member of his church, First Church of God Darlington and the Masons. He was apart of the St. David's Lodge #72 in Darlington. In his free time, Freddie always enjoyed working in his yards and tinkering in his shop. Mr. West and his wife, Martha celebrated 68 years of marriage together on Sunday, September 8th.
Surviving Freddie is his wife, Martha Hough West, two daughters, Tay Frey and Tonda Weaver both of Darlington, his grandchildren, Ashleigh (Scott) Shelley, Carrie Perkins, Jake (Casie) Mims and his great-grandchildren, Carter Perkins, Cayden Perkins, Kip Perkins, Emma Shelley, Jack Shelley, Owen Shelley, Mabry Mims and Hamp Mims.
In addition to his parents, Freddie is preceded in death by his siblings, Hilda Bridges, Jean Newman, Billy West, and his sons-in-law, Danny Weaver and Johnny Frey.
The family would like to give a special thanks to his caregivers, Ruthphine Graham, Kim Goins, Junior Robinson and Suzanne Romans, also Diego and Solomon who helped keep Mr. West's yards.
