Floree (Abney) Matthews

Floree Abney Matthews, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at her residence. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 10 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm in Belk Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 11 at 3:00pm in Central Baptist Church, with burial following at Grove Hill Cemetery.

Floree was born in Saluda County, SC on September 22, 1927. She is the daughter of the late General Lee Abney and Sadie Ella Jones Abney. Mrs. Matthews was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was the church secretary for Central Baptist Church for over thirty years. She had a love for children and helped to organize and establish Central Baptist Church Pre-School and Daycare.  She touched many lives through her many years of teaching Sunday school. She loved listening to music, crocheting, sewing, and raising her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Everette (Cathy) Mathews of Boiling Springs, daughter Jocelyn (Jimmy) Sanderson, grandchildren: Jason Sanderson, Christie (Matthew) Lovinggood, Kelsey (Tim) Cook, Jamie (Daniel) Barnhill, great-grandchildren: Avery Sanderson, Connor Cook, Willow Barnhill, Riley Lovinggood.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Matthews, and three brothers and two sisters.
