Felton Lavel Stephens, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and veteran, passed away peacefully from natural causes on February 1, 2026, at the age of 87. A visitation will be held for him Friday, February 6th at Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church in Darlington at 1:00 pm, with a funeral service immediately following at 2:00 pm in the church. Born on April 4, 1938, to James C. Stephens and Nannie Mae Chandler Langston in Darlington County. Felton lived a life marked by service, family, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. Felton proudly served in the United States Navy, exemplifying the values of courage, commitment, and honor that define our armed forces. His service not only contributed to the safety of our nation but also instilled in him a deep sense of duty towards his family and community. He cherished his time in the Navy on the USS Cone and the USS Everglades. Felton also retired from working maintenance for over 20 years at DuPont. Felton was a devoted lifelong member of Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church where he served in many different positions within the church. He also served in many capacities in the Southern Methodist Eastern Conference. After his retirement he enjoyed traveling the country with his beautiful bride, as well as with family & friends. He also loved fishing and was an avid Gamecock fan. He was a proud supporter of his grandchildren in all areas of their lives, and when he could still drive, he never missed a birthday lunch with his girls. He leaves behind his loving wife, Shelby Stephens of 70 years. Their son Johnny Stephens of Lake City and daughter Deborah (Mackie) Christenburg of Little River and Granddaughters Charity (Matt) Kratz of Conway and Susannah (Michael) Prosser of Conway. His four great-grandchildren Emery, Shelby, Ford, and Neva. Also, his sister Carolyn (Jim) Rhodes of Lamar. Along with his numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. Preceding him in death are his parents, brother Darrell Stephens, brother-in-law Vernon Windham, and sister-in-law Mary Dell Stephens. His family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Spring Oak Assisted Living in Conway for the care that they gave Felton. Memorials can be made in his honor to Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church at 1665 Philadelphia Street in Darlington, SC 29532
