Evelyn Smith Byrd

Evelyn Smith Byrd, age 94, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2020. A graveside service will be held 12:00 p.m. Thursday, August 13th at Darlington Memory Gardens. Those who would like to pay their respects and sign the guestbook may do so Wednesday between 1-5 p.m. at Belk Funeral Home.

Born March 4, 1926, Evelyn was the daughter of the late William "Billy" Henry Smith and Orilla Pickett Smith. She worked for Dixie Cup for 26 years and worked for Pyramid (Nytronics) for three years. Evelyn was an avid reader and enjoyed working in her flower garden. She enjoyed embroidering Christmas tree skirts and stockings for the grandchildren.

Surviving are her sons, John T. (Marilyn) Byrd, III of Darlington, Mike (Sandra) Byrd of Hartsville; six grandchildren, Nikki Michelle Byrd of Durham, Barrett (Raelyn) Byrd of Wilmington, NC, Billy (Kara) Byrd of Irmo, Brad (Stacey) Byrd of Irmo, Megan (Nathan) Ames of Salt Lake City, UT, and Clint (Meredith) Byrd of Hartsville; great-grandchildren, Beau Byrd, Emily Byrd, Landon Byrd, Baileigh Byrd, Brady Byrd, Everly Grace Ames, Live Aubrey Ames, Stella Byrd, Adalyne Byrd; a great-great-grandchild, Emme Byrd; and a special niece, Jane Huggins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Toye Byrd, Jr.; brothers, Leo, Malry, Ollie, Carey and Emory Smith; sisters, Laura Caulder, Adelia Dowson, Gracie Matthews, Nellie Johnston, and Bliss Sports.
