Ethel Jones Gainey

Ethel "Polly" Jones Gainey, age 89, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Medford Nursing Center. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, March 17th at Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday, March 17th from 10:00am until 10:45am at Belk Funeral Home. Polly was born in Darlington County on July 9, 1927 to the late J.W. "Wesley" Jones, Sr. and Chessie Ingram Jones. Ms. Gainey worked for Nytronics and later as a nurse's aide and caretaker. She attended Victory Baptist Church and First Original Free Will Baptist Church for years. She was survived by her two sons: Toby Gainey (Betty Smith) of Darlington, E. W. Gainey (Linda) of Ogden, Utah; sisters: Wanda Hall (Nick), Jerlon Stokes (Leon); one brother, Jerry Jones (Susie) all of Hartsville, nine grandchildren, a number of great-grands and great-great grandchildren, and a special former daughter-in-law, Carolyn Ard Gainey. Polly was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Mack Gainey, two brothers: John W. "Dub" Jones, and Jasper "Jap" Jones; and two grandsons: Gene Gainey and Sean Gainey. The family would like to thank the staff at Medford Nursing Center for their care and compassion.
