With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Elaine Dunn Smith, age 81, who left this world on March 7, 2025. A gentle spirit and a loving mother, Elaine will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Elaine was born on December 8, 1943, in Lamar, the cherished daughter of Harlee W. and Emmie Plummer Dunn. After dedicating many years of her life to her career at FIBERS Industries in Darlington, she embraced retirement with zest, bringing warmth and joy to her time spent at Dollar General and Hancock Fabric. Elaine had a heart for adventure, filling her life with travel – whether it was embarking on bus trips or sailing away on cruises, she sought out the beauty of the world and the joy of shared experiences.
An exceptionally talented seamstress, Elaine could often be found sewing and knitting, creating handmade treasures for her loved ones while enjoying her favorite 80's game shows or the timeless episodes of *Gunsmoke*. Her creative spirit was only matched by her kind and generous heart, which she shared with her friends and family. She was an active member of the Lamar United Methodist Church and was proud to be part of the Bessie Jeffords Circle, where she formed lasting friendships and continued to give to her community.
Elaine leaves behind her beloved children, Tami (Tommy) Usher of Hartsville; Jack (Debbie) Smith of Lamar; and her cherished grandchildren: Magan (Billy) Volk, Dylan Usher, Hunter Smith (Sydney), and Tyler (Brandi) Smith. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Finley Grace Volk, Brooks Usher, and Ryker Volk. In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by her dear sisters, Carolyn and Helen Dunn.
Elaine's family invites all who loved her to join them in celebrating her life. A visitation will take place at Belk Funeral Home in Lamar on Friday, March 14, starting at 3:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at Lamar Memorial Cemetery at 4:00 PM.
In honoring Elaine's memory, the family suggests that memorials be made to St. Jude's Hospital, a cause that reflects her spirit of compassion and care. Donations can be made online at [St. Jude's Hospital](https://www.stjude.org/donate).
As we remember Elaine, may we find solace in the countless memories she gifted us and the love she imparted to all.
