Edward "Chip" Dennis Iii

October 6, 1948 — September 25, 2022

Edward Colgate "Chip" Dennis, III, age 73, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022, from a brief illness. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 27 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at the home of Pete and Judy Dennis, 1532 Woodspond Road in Darlington. A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Wednesday, September 28 at Saint Matthew's Church in Darlington, with burial following in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Born on October 6, 1948, Chip is the son of the late Edward Colgate Dennis, Jr and Jane Hill McKinnon Dennis. He graduated from Brandon Hall, attended Newberry College, and then served in the United States Army. After returning home, he graduated from Florence-Darlington Technical College and worked as an accountant under his late father-in-law, Harold Jaillette. He continued to own and operate Dennis Tax Service throughout his life.

He was married to the late Ann Jaillette Dennis, who was the love of his life. He was a member of Saint Matthews Church, where he served on the Vestry, was a member of the Men's Bible study group, was always in the kitchen for the Shrove Tuesday pancake supper, and was active in the Cursillo movement.

He loved Jesus, loved his family, and loved his country. He was an avid outdoorsman who lived to be on the water, loved fishing, hunting, and camping. He held a lot of titles: son, brother, friend, husband, father, Pappy, and the infamous "Baitman". He was a friend and mentor to many young people over the years.

Surviving are his children, Edward Colgate "Pete" Dennis, IV, his wife Judy, and Elizabeth "Bess" Harry, her husband Brice, grandchildren: Laurel Ann Dennis, John Edward "Jed" Dennis, Wilson Elizabeth Harry, and Clara Louise Harry; a sister, Lacy D. Chapman, brothers-in-law: Harold "Hoss" Jaillette, Sam (Connie) Jaillette, sister-in-law, Mary J. Altman, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint Matthew's Church at 210 South Main Street or Uncle B's Outdoors at www.facebook.com/unclebsoutdoors.
