It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edith "Edie" Benjamin Sanderson, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, who left us peacefully on September 29, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on October 17, 1947, Edie resided in Darlington, South Carolina, where she dedicated her life to her family and community. Edie enjoyed a long career with Darlington County Schools, serving as a secretary at St. Johns High School and Hartsville Middle and for many years, where she was known for her dedication and warmth. Her professional journey included stints as a hairdresser and a bank teller, showcasing her diverse talents and commitment to service. A true sports enthusiast, Edie's heart belonged to basketball, and she eagerly awaited March Madness each year, rallying behind her beloved Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. Her passions extended beyond sports; in her leisure time, she found joy in reading, taking leisurely trips to the beach, and honing her needlepoint skills. Edie was a cherished member of the Darlington Presbyterian Church, where she not only worshipped but also devoted her time to helping others by volunteering at The Lord Cares. Her kindness, compassion, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She is survived by her loving daughter, Sarah (Alex) Blackmon, her dear brother, Lem Benjamin, her grandchildren, Courtney (Kramer) Folsom and Lex Blackmon, and her great-grandson, Tripp Folsom. She also leaves behind her brothers-in-law, Jimmy and Leon (Joyce) Sanderson, as well as her sisters-in-law, Eva Jane (Freddie) Ammons and Elaine (Robert) Massey, all of whom cherished her.
