Eddie Lee Hales

Eddie Lee Hales, Sr., age 81, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, May 18th in Mechanicsville Baptist Church chapel, with burial following in the church Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive from 1-2 PM Thursday at the church, and other times at 706 Rio Dr. Darlington, SC 29532. Born October 28, 1935 in Wilmington, NC, Eddie is the son of the late William Herbert Hales, Sr., and Amanda Florence Cherry Hales Merritt, and was raised be her and his step-father, Delma Merritt. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Eddie was a member of the COOTS and served as Director of the OMAR IMPS. He loved reading, fishing and watching NASCAR. He was talented in woodworking and was a member of Mechanicsville Baptist Church. Surviving are his children, Eddie L. Hales, Jr. of Evergreen, Jackie (Marty) Poston of Timmonsville, Debra (Robbie) Truett of Darlington, and Michael Hales of Florence; six grandchildren; Ronnie, Jennifer, Cassidy, Brandon, Adam and Austin and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Zula Mae Hales; and his brother, William Herbert Hales, Sr. Memorials may be made to Mechanicsville Baptist Church, 2364 Cashua Ferry Rd, Darlington, SC 29532.
