David 'Cowboy' Johnson

David "Cowboy" Johnson, age 77, died peacefully on July 3, 2016 at the McLeod Hospice House with his daughter by his side. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home at 5:00 on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 with burial following in Swift Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 5:00 Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home of his daughter, 625 Hidden Lane, Darlington. Born July 31, 1938 in Horry County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Alice Teechie Johnson. Mr. Johnson was the widower of Cathy Carnes Johnson. David worked as a manager at different hotels and also had worked for Asplundh Tree Service. Cowboy was a member of Southside Freewill Baptist Church. He is survived by his only daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and David Cortes, his only grandson, David James Cortes, Jr all of Darlington, a sister, Sara Jane Johnson of Conway, an abundance of nieces and nephews, and a very dear friend and caregiver, Buffie Robinson. In addition to his parents and wife, David was preceded in death by a brother, George Johnson, and two sisters, Annie Mae Johnson and Annebelle Barr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, c/o Belk Funeral Home, PO Box 523, Darlington, SC 29540 to help with funeral expenses.
