David Barber, age 72, passed away Tuesday, March 24, in his hometown of Darlington, where he spent his entire life surrounded by family, friends, and the community he loved. The family will receive relatives and friends at Belk Funeral Home on Sunday, March 29 from 2:00 to 3:00pm. The funeral service will follow at 3pm in the Belk Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in Grove Hill Cemetery.
Born November 3, 1953, David is the son of the late Charles W. and Ila L. Barber. David was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jane, with whom he shared 36 years of marriage. Also predeceased by brother, Charles Wayne Barber, sisters Lynn Tolson, Joyce Carr.
Surviving are his two sons, David Lee (Leigh Anne) Barber, Jr., of Charlotte and Charles Damon (Lani) Barber of Lexington; grandchildren: Addison, Bryan, and Avery; brother, Jerry Mark (Karen) Barber of Darlington. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Throughout his years in Darlington, David touched the lives of many. He was a graduate of St. John’s High School, worked the family farm, was employed by Dixie Cup and ran several small businesses in the community. He loved the Clemson Tigers and kept up with the football, basketball and baseball teams through conversation with his boys and trips to Tiger Town whenever possible. He loved to draw and shared his special sketches with his grandchildren. David never met a stranger, found the good in all people and believed a hard days work deserved a celebration. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, and all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to THE LORD CARES at P.O. Box 1457, Darlington, SC 29540.
