Lamar

CMSGT David Benjamin Baggarley (Ret.), age 93, of Lamar, SC, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Born on July 9, 1931, to Wyatt Baggarley and Mildred Moore Baggarley in Florida, David was a dedicated and loving father, grandfather, and brother. He proudly served his country in the United States Army (6 yrs) and the United States Air Force (32 yrs) He proudly made a career of service to his nation. He had many achievements and awards throughout his career. He was a great mentor and leader to anyone who only had to ask. Since retirement, He was best known for fishing and gardening. He has fished since he was 5 years old. He lived in Jacksonville, Florida most of his life. He knew the rivers and tributaries like the back of his hand. He also has dibs on catching the Florida State record for the largest crooker. Since moving to South Carolina, he seems to have mastered freshwater fishing, with the help of his fishing buddy, George Parnell. The perch and catfish didn't have a chance. If someone needed fish for a fish fry, Dave was the man to call. They would also give the fish to folks around town. His Gardening was a lot like his fishing. A lot and big. He would plant 80 tomato bushes, 2 rows of squash, zucchini, broccoli, etc. His gardens were hugh. The fall garden produced the biggest cabbage heads you have ever seen. People in Florida and South Carolina were waiting for the collard and muster greens. It made him feel so good to give people his veggies that he worked so hard to bring to harvest. His smile said it all. Anyone who was fortunate enough to know him, was a better person.

David is survived by his daughter Susan Quinn (Don); son-in-law, Thomas Harris; grandchildren, Tonya Bennett,  Crystal Personette (Marq), Tiffany Griffith (Garett), and Courtney May (Roberto); as well as his brother, Joe  Baggarley. His family, friends, and all who knew him will remember his kindness, commitment, and unwavering love.  Preceding him in death is his wife of 50 years Joann Baggarley, daughter Barbara Harris, son David Baggarley and brother Hillary Baggarley.
