Danny Pierce, age 72, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024 after a brief but rapid battle with aggressive brain cancer. He was born in Hartsville, SC on May 11, 1952 to the late Cindy Mae Tarlton Pierce and Rev. Emsey Pierce.
Danny graduated from Hartsville High School in 1970. He was an ordained minister who preached his first sermon on June 22, 1971. Before entering the ministry full-time, Danny served as a Specialist 4th Class with the South Carolina Army National Guard, working as a Basic Wheel Vehicle Mechanic. During his full-time ministry, he was ordained with the Church of God of Prophecy, the United Christian Church and Ministerial Association, and the Southern Baptist Association. Danny earned a Bachelor of Religious Arts in Christian Psychology from Jacksonville Theological Seminary and was a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. Throughout his ministry, he served as a youth director, Sunday school teacher, senior and interim/supply pastor, motivational speaker, and various other roles in churches. Danny was also a counselor and instructor at the state youth camp. He held the position of district overseer and was a member of the State Convention's Question/Subjects Committee.
Danny performed a significant number of baptisms, including those of his own daughters in Cozumel, Mexico, in 2022. Additionally, he saw an influx of new members and performed a multitude of weddings, funerals, and baby dedications. Danny also served as the Veterans Liaison with the AGAPÉ Care Group and worked as a Chaplain/Veterans Program Coordinator with Hospice Care of SC. He held various roles, including Chaplain, Marketer, Volunteer Coordinator, and Business Development at Harmony Care Hospice, AGAPÉ Hospice, and Wilson Senior Care. Danny volunteered at the Hartsville Area Depression Support Group as a facilitator and at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, McLeod Regional Medical Center, Darlington County Detention Center, and Florence County Detention Center as chaplain.
Danny was also a District Executive for the Boy Scouts of America and worked as the Manager and Family Services Coordinator at Westview Memorial Park. He attended the Bible Training Institute and Tomlinson College in Cleveland, TN.
Danny pastored at several locations, including Church of God of Prophecy churches in Lugoff, McBee, Westminster, Green Hill, and Pleasant Grove; Piney Plains Freewill Baptist Church; Hartsville Advent Christian Church; and Mt. Elon, Edwards Chapel, Cornerstone, and Antioch Baptist Churches.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda Wilson Pierce, and daughters, Danielle MaeShay "Shay" Pierce and Kimberly Lena "Kimi" (fiancé Robert William "Robbie" Hanlin Jr.) Pierce; his sister, Patricia Brigman; and his brother, Billy (Jackie) Pierce; and special great nephew and niece who were like grandchildren, Robert "Bridges" Teal II and Piper Joelle Teal; all of Hartsville.
Danny was predeceased by his parents, Cindy Mae Tarlton Pierce and Rev. Emsey Pierce; his sisters: Christine Miles, Catherine Jeanette Morrison, Elaine Danaher, and Evelyn Perdue; his brothers: Albert Pierce and Emsey "Buddy" Pierce; and his special great nephew who was like his grandson, Bayler Joel Teal.
