Cecil Thomas Sturgeon

Cecil Thomas "Tommy" Sturgeon, 85, husband of the late Haroldean A. Sturgeon of Darlington, died Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at McLeod Hospice House. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 22nd at Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. Born in Darlington, Tommy was the son of the late Charlie Sturgeon and Roxie Adams Sturgeon. He graduated from St. John's High School in 1950. He retired from James River, Dixie Plate. Tommy was a very active member of Central Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school, served as training union director, and as a deacon. He could be found most days "fixing whatever needed fixing". Surviving are his children: Beth Hubbard (Reggie), Chris (Kim), Kevin (Martha), and Kyle (Teresa). He was a good, good papa to his grandchildren: Meghan Henson, Grayson Sturgeon, Caleb Sturgeon, Sarah Henson, Anna Henson, Wells Sturgeon (Nicole), Becca Eubanks (Steven), Reid Sturgeon, Madison Sturgeon, Cade Sturgeon, and Sydnie Sturgeon. He is also survived by a great-grandchild, Paisley Sturgeon; and a brother, Johnny (Liz). Mr. Sturgeon was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Thigpen. Memorials are suggested to Kid's Closet of Darlington, 72 Public Square, Darlington, SC 29532.
