Carolyn A. Odom

Carolyn Gainey Odom, age 73 died in her home on Sunday, August 15, 2021. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 18th at Dovesville Church of God with burial following at Black Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Belk Funeral Home.

Born on September 10, 1947, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Monroe Gainey and Kathleen Hall Gainey Parnell. She retired from the Darlington County Schools after 32 years, and she assisted with her husband's business for 26 years. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and she enjoyed working in her yards. Carolyn was a member of Dovesville Church of God.

Surviving are her husband, Joe E. Odom; her children, Joe Odom III of Darlington, Kevin (Rebecca Strickland) DuRant of Darlington and Monica (Ronnie) Poston of Ruby; grandchildren, Hailey, Courtney, Sheena, Katelyn, Little Ronnie, Noah, Walter, Bren and Liz; great-grandchildren, Alayna, Addison, Connor, Grayson, Kayden, Gracie and Mason; a brother, Robert (Linda) Gainey and a sister, Donna (Buck) Register.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Bryan (Dina) DuRant; siblings, Charlie Gainey, Wayne Gainey, Dot Ham and Wanda Wilson; and her first husband, Marvin DuRant.
