Carolyn Smith Abbott

Carolyn Smith Abbott, age 72, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2nd at Darlington Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at Belk Funeral Home, and other times at the home. Carolyn was born in Winston-Salem, the daughter of the late Elbert E. Smith and the late Effie Mae Reavis Smith. She graduated from Appalachian State University. She taught music in local public schools, at James F. Byrnes Academy and taught private piano lessons. Carolyn was a talented musician who played many musical instruments and loved singing with the Florence Masterworks Choir. Mrs. Abbott also operated her own interior design company. She served on the Historic Landmarks Commission, Darlington Downtown Revitalization Committee, and the Darlington Garden Club. She was a faithful member of Darlington Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She also served as a Deacon, was an active member of Circle 3 and Treasurer of Women in the Church. Surviving is her husband of 49 years, William "Bill" Abbott, Jr.; their daughters, Krista Abbott of Dillon and Katherine Abbott of Darlington; grandchildren, William and Reavis Byrd of Dillon; sister, Judith (John) Yarbrough of Raleigh, NC; brother, Steven E. (Linda) Smith of East Bend, NC, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steven (Debra) Abbott of Darlington, nieces and nephews, Meredith Yarbrough (Greg) Cohoon and Aurora of Greensboro, NC; Stephen Yarbrough of Raleigh, NC; Crystal Abbott and Brandon Abbott of Darlington.
