Brenda Watkins Phillips, 78, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born on December 23, 1947, in Hartsville, South Carolina, Brenda was the daughter of the late Blanche Reaves Watkins Kissiah and William Angus Watkins. She was the beloved wife of Tracy E. Phillips, Sr. for 44 years until his passing in April 2020. Together they built a life centered on family, love, and devotion.

Brenda was an extraordinary mother to her daughter, Tara Phillips Woodson, and her late son, Tracy E. "Tray" Phillips, Jr. Being a mother was not simply a role she filled—it was her life's purpose. Whether it meant running errands, preparing a favorite meal and delivering it wherever her children happened to be, or helping care for them through illness and difficult times, Brenda was always there. She never missed an opportunity to remind her children how deeply she loved them, and that love remained a constant source of comfort and strength throughout their lives.

Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren, Julia Woodson and Sadie Phillips. Affectionately known to them as "Gigi," Brenda was also known as their "Yes Girl" because she simply could not say no to them. Whether it was a fast-food snack, an ice cream treat, or even signing them out of school early, Julia and Sadie knew Gigi would always say yes. As far as Brenda was concerned, her grandchildren hung the moon. She delighted in sharing stories of their personalities, accomplishments, and adventures with anyone willing to listen. There could not have been a more loving or devoted Gigi, and the bond they shared will remain forever in their hearts.

An avid animal lover, Brenda never met a stray she wouldn't help. She fed countless dogs and cats throughout the years and opened her home and heart to any animal in need. Her beloved rescue dog, Lulu, held a special place in her heart, and Brenda lovingly cooked meals for her every day until she was no longer able to do so. She also cared for numerous cats over the years, often taking in strays and even bottle-feeding kittens that needed a chance to survive. Her son, Tray, affectionately called her the "Old Cat Lady," a nickname she wore with pride because helping animals brought her immense joy.

Brenda leaves behind her daughter, Tara Phillips Woodson (Bill); her daughter-in-law whom she loved as her own, Jessica Phillips Starnes (Michael); her cherished grandchildren, Julia Woodson and Sadie Phillips; her brother, Larry Kissiah of Hartsville; her sister-in-law, Peggy Phillips Smith of Lamar; and a special nephew, Charles Phillips of Pawleys Island. She also leaves behind her faithful companion Lulu and the many animals whose lives were made better by her kindness.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tracy E. Phillips, Sr.; her son, Tracy E. "Tray" Phillips, Jr.; her parents, Blanche Reaves Watkins Kissiah and William Angus Watkins; her brothers, Cleve Lunn, Jim Lunn, and Tom Lunn; and her sister, Sybil Langston.

Brenda's family will miss her every day for the rest of their lives. Her legacy of unconditional love, generosity, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know her.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Crescent Hospice, especially Jordan McDonald and Crystal Morton, for the compassionate care, comfort, and support they provided during Brenda's final days. They would also like to acknowledge and thank her devoted caregivers, Ms. Patricia McCall, Ms. Nancy Pate, and Mrs. Gail Weaver, whose friendship, love, kindness, and exceptional care brought comfort and joy to Brenda and her family. Their dedication and companionship will always be remembered with deep appreciation.

The family will receive visitors Sunday, June 14th, 2026 at 3:00 to 4:00pm in Belk Funeral Home Chapel in Lamar, with a memorial service to follow at 4:00pm.
