Darlington

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Bobby Mack Mangum, a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, who left this world on December 2, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on October 14, 1936, in the serene town of Bethune, South Carolina, Bobby's life was a testament to enduring dedication and love for his family and community.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Bobby served his country with honor and commitment. After his military service, he found his calling as a dedicated truck driver for Merita Bakery, where he spent many years ensuring that the essential grains of life reached tables across the region.

In his free time, Bobby enjoyed taking his prized 1969 Chevelle SS to car shows, where he proudly won "Best of Show" at Joe's Grill Car Show. He was such a huge NASCAR fan that he was at the very 1st race at the age of 14 in 1950. He also loved dirt track racing. Bobby was an active member of the PeeDee Street Roders, and he cherished sitting with his buddy, Ronnie Hanniford, and spending time at the C Store in the mornings. A member of the Moose Lodge in Darlington, Bobby's presence in his community was felt by many.

Bobby is survived by his devoted spouse, Carolyn McQueen Mangum; his beloved sons, Mack (wife Cathy Sue) Mangum and John Mangum all of Darlington; and his cherished grandchildren: John Mangum, Jr. of Columbia, Jennifer (Jimmy) Calcutt of Pamplico, Devin Mangum of Darlington, Haley Lynn (Jeff) of Dillon, Jenny Lynn (Ross) Huggins of Florence.  His precious great grandchildren Kain Mangum-Calcutt, Kaleb Mangum-Calcutt, Journey Mangum, and Lucas Crawford Lynn.  He is also mourned by his loving sisters, Vickie Lane and Shirley Ramsey, along with a host of relatives and friends who will remember him for his kindness, warmth, and unyielding spirit.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wade Mangum; his mother, Katie Mangum; and his brothers, Hobson Mangum and Terry Mangum.

A graveside service celebrating Bobby's life will be held on December 5, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Darlington Memory Gardens. In this sacred gathering, loved ones will come together to pay their final respects, honoring a man whose heart and soul touched the lives of many.
