Blair Owens

August 7, 1947 — April 19, 2024

Florence

Jon Blair Owens, age 76, went home to be with his Lord on Friday April 19, 2024. His family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Belk Funeral Home. A funeral service will start at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Owens was born in Kingstree on August 7, 1947, son of the late Robert M. "Mac" and Stoutie Wedaman Owens. Blair joined the United States Army and bravely fought in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division and was a Bronze Star recipient. Mr. Owens was proud to be a veteran, and proudly supported all of his fellow vets; attending ceremonies, anonymously paying for the lunch of many veterans and proudly and properly displaying our American flag. He was a true patriot of the United States. Mr. Owens was quick to engage in a conversation about politics, and practiced his First Amendment right, by proudly displaying signage throughout Florence and the local area. Above all, he was a man of God. He was a faithful and longtime member of Florence Baptist Temple. The well-lit cross that shines in his yard has become a "landmark" for those who travel Southborough Rd.
Blair loved what God has created around us in nature, and always enjoyed being on the water. It didn't matter if it was the smell of the salt air in Murrell's Inlet or the ambience of Black's Fish Camp at Santee. He also had a fondness for animals, he and his wife rescuing and adopting many !
He is survived by his wife, Janice Lane Owens; three children: Rebecca (Ricky) Shelton of Murrell's Inlet, Jon B. Owens, Jr. of Raleigh, Robert David (Ryan) Owens of Florence, grandchildren: Andrew Taulbee, Madison Griggs, Faith Lewis, Xzavia Brown, Ricky Shelton Jr.; six great-grandchildren, a sister, Robbie Barroll and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert W. Owens.
Memorials may be made to the Frank Monroe Scholarship Fund at Florence Baptist Temple, 2308 S. Irby St, Florence, SC 29505 or Tunnel to Towers, www.t2t.org or buy a veteran a meal and let them know they are appreciated!
