Betty W. Windham

Betty Williams Windham, age 81 passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016. Funeral services will be held 4:00pm Thursday, September 8th at Newman Swamp United Methodist Church in Lamar with burial following in Zion Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. Born May 17, 1935; Betty is the daughter of the late Rev. Frank L. Williams and Myrtle Truesdale Williams. She graduated from high school in Bamberg, SC in 1953. She later received a Masters Degree in education from Francis Marion University. Betty retired from Darlington County School District after teaching for many years. She was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. Betty loved gardening, especially caring for and photographing her beautiful flowers. She was the eldest of 11 children and was a mentor to all of them and their children. She had a deep love for all her family and made all guests feel like family. Betty devoted her life and unending love to her family. Her children and grandchildren were her heart and focus of her last years. She enjoyed loving, caring, and feeding all of them. Thanksgiving will never be the same without her turkey and dressing. Betty was a special blessing to so many people. She helped others in any way she possibly could. We will miss her. Surviving are her sons, Timmy (Teresa) Windham, Thomy (Gina) Windham, Tal (Tabby) Windham; and her daughter, Tina (Danny) McElveen, all of Lamar; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Jack (Carolyn) Williams and Sheldon Williams, both of Conway; her sisters, Geraldine Britt of Darlington, Sylvia (Ken) Johnson of Kentucky, Patsy (Jerry) Risher of Alabama, Sheila (Skip) Pierce of Kentucky, Carla (Richard) Mercer of Andrews, SC; and her brother-in-law, Efford (Phyllis) Windham of Timmonsville. She has many, many dearly loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Windham; her brothers, Paul, Frank, and Allen Williams. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Wednesday, September 7th at Belk Funeral Home in Lamar. Memorials may be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America.
