Betty Delores Truett

May 15, 1936 — January 25, 2026

Darlington

Lifelong Darlington resident, Betty Delores Truett passed away Sunday, January 25, 2026, just 4 months shy of her 90th birthday. Born on May 15, 1936 to parents Dudley Burton Truett and Cora Lee Lloyd Truett, Betty was a true miracle baby, having been very premature and weighing barely 18 ounces. One of eight brothers and sisters, she was amazingly the last of her siblings to pass.

While Betty did not have children of her own, for generations she served as a trusted caregiver for her many nieces, nephews and grands. The children’s stories and precious memories are numerous, and she loved them all dearly. Special people in Betty’s life include her nephew Ernest Goodson, Jr., who faithfully provided excellent home care for her in her most Golden Years, as well as her deceased devoted sister Barbara Carolyn Truett Curlott. The three, Betty, Carolyn and Junior, were constant and rambunctious little playmates.

Betty was a member of The First Freewill Baptist Church and demonstrated her faith through unconditional love, generosity and a joyful spirit. She was active in the Darlington community all her life. She volunteered untold hours at the Council on Aging as well with Meals on Wheels. Family and generations of friends will remember her for gathering pecans, mowing lawns and beautiful embroidering. She loved Christmas, picking and canning vegetables, shopping for “sales”, a good steak and especially her beloved animals.

The family would like to thank all those who over the years ”Looked Out” for Our Aunt Betty. Also, thank you Valerie for tenderly caring for Betty in recent months.

A Family and Friend Celebration of Life is being planned for her Birthday in May. Burial will be at Wesley Chapel in Lydia, SC at that time.
