Barbara Jean Overstreet Gibson

Barbara Jean Overstreet Gibson, 84, died on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Swift Creek Baptist Church, with entombment to follow at Darlington Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Born on October 31, 1941, in Sumter, Barbara was the daughter of the late George Lee and Miriam Brown Overstreet. She dedicated her career to serving her community as a dispatcher for the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, where she took pride in helping others. Barbara was a faithful member of Swift Creek Baptist Church, where her devotion to her faith was an important part of her life.

Barbara found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was enjoying a hot cup of coffee filled to the rim, completing her favorite word searches, sharing her love of all things Disney, or cheering on her beloved Clemson Tigers. Above all, she cherished the time spent surrounded by her family and friends. The laughter, love, and memories shared throughout the years will remain a lasting testament to the joy she brought into their lives. She is survived by her daughter; Cindy (Ernie) Brazell, son; Walter E. (Anne) Gibson Jr., sister; Gloria McKissick, brother; G.L. (Diane) Overstreet, 7 grand children, and 11 great-grand children.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; George Lee and Miriam Brown Overstreet, husband; Earl Gibson, daughter; Deborah Mathis. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Swift Creek Baptist Church, 413 N Center Road, Darlington, SC 29532.
