Art Blackmon

Harry Arthur Blackmon, II, affectionately known as Art, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on August 4, 2026, following a brief illness.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, at Grove Hill Cemetery, with visitation to follow at the McCown Building of Darlington Presbyterian Church.

Born on January 25, 1979, Art was the youngest son of Heyward N. Blackmon, Sr. and the late Ada Lee Wilkes Blackmon. He was raised in Darlington and graduated from Darlington High School. After briefly attending Florence Darlington Technical College, Art joined the family business, Blackmon Memorials, where he devoted nearly 30 years to his craft as a gifted stone carver and artist.

Art was a quiet and reserved man with a subtle sense of humor and a remarkable knowledge of United States history. He enjoyed sharing that knowledge and was always quick to gently correct anyone who may have misremembered a historical fact. His attention to detail and exceptional craftsmanship earned the respect of those who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Ada Lee Wilkes Blackmon, and his grandparents, Royce E. Blackmon, Sr. and Mattie Brown Blackmon, and Derry M. Wilkes and Ethel Lee Wilkes.

He is survived by his father, Heyward N. Blackmon, Sr. of Darlington; his brother, H. Nelson Blackmon, Jr. (GeorgeAnne), also of Darlington; his niece, Sarah Elizabeth Louise Blackmon of Winston Salem, North Carolina; and many loving cousins and extended family members.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to Darlington Presbyterian Church or to the Darlington Fire Department Christmas Toy Drive.
