Annie “Jean” Morton Clark, passed away on December 12th, 2025 at the age of 99 in Lamar, with her loving family by her side. A private service will be held graveside in Lamar Memorial Cemetery.
She was born June 24th, 1926, in Waycross, Georgia. After her mother died she grew up in Thornwell Orphanage in Clinton, SC. She attended college in Montreat, North Carolina and also attended Winthrop College, South Carolina. She started her teaching career in a school in Gibson, North Carolina. Sometime later she moved to Lamar, SC to teach as well. She lived with Doris Jean Fields and family. Ate supper nightly with Dot Plummer and family. It’s then she formed lifelong friendships.
Ms. Jean married Esley Clark and lived in Angles, SC. She taught elementary in McBee, SC for many years. Her teaching career spanned 31 years. She later moved back to Lamar and attended Lamar Methodist Church. Ms. Jean loved to travel, eat, and do word search puzzles, and never missed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
She leaves behind her nephews Ronald Beeman, Walter Beeman, Michael Hoverson, Daniel Hoverson, and John Hoverson. Nieces Susan Hoverson and Jeanne Hoverson who cared for her in her home.
Proceeding her in death are her siblings: Ida Mae Truelove, William Morton, Carl Morton, Dorothy Beeman, and Ruby Hoverson, nephew William Truelove, and great-nephew Eric Hoverson.
She was a sweet, caring person, and will be missed by many.
