Annie Leigh G. Flowers
Darlington - Annie Leigh G. Flowers, age 95, a longtime resident of Darlington, SC passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016. Funeral services will be held 4:00pm Saturday, March 12th in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home. Burial will be held privately at Grove Hill Cemetery.
Born March 25, 1920 in Egypt, SC, Annie Leigh was the daughter of Monroe and Stella Mozingo Gandy. She moved to Punta Gorda, FL in 2006 to reside near her daughter. While a Darlington resident, Annie Leigh worked in various administrative positions in retail and health care. She retired in 1982 to enjoy time and travel with her husband and grandchildren. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Darlington. Her women's circle at First Baptist was named in her honor when she moved from Darlington; and remained a member of the circle until her passing. She was a former member of the Pilot Club International, and the Camellia Garden Club of Darlington. In 2005 she was named Volunteer of the Year with the Pilot Club, and honor she was proud to receive. She truly enjoyed traveling with her husband to Kiwanis meetings and conventions local, district, and international. Annie Leigh will also be remembered for her service at the polls for many, many elections in Darlington at the courthouse.
Surviving are her daughter, Ellen (Eddie) Webb of Punta Gorda, FL and her son-in-law, Walter H. "Sonny" Sims of Columbia; her grandchildren, Leigh (Jason) Erickson of Marietta, GA, Heyward (Amber) Sims of Columbia, and Anna (Adam) King of Mt. Pleasant; her great-grandchildren, Ellie and Anna Erickson, and Sienna Sims; five nieces and one nephew, several great-nieces and nephews; her sister, Sarah (Harry) Parker of Columbia, and her brother, Pierce (Barbara) Gandy of Oklahoma City, OK, and her sister-in-law, Martha Gandy of Hartsville.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Albert L. Flowers, Jr., her daughter, Margaret Leigh Sims, and her brothers, Irvin and B.L. "Buck" Gandy.
The family will receive friends from 4-6pm Friday, March 11th at Belk Funeral Home.
