Alton E. Thompson

Alton "Pookie" E. Thompson, Jr., age 73, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024. A time to reflect and gather will take place at the home of his step-daughter, Pat Hammond at 704 Fantastic Lane in Hartsville, SC from the times of 2:00pm until 4:00pm on Saturday, July 20th.

Pookie was born in Darlington County on May 8, 1951 son of the late Alton E. Thompson, Sr. and Carolyn Rebecca Matthews Thompson. He worked as a carpenter for many years and in his free time he always loved being outdoors fishing or hunting.

Surviving Pookie is his daughter, Lisa (Kenneth Stewart) Weatherford, step-children, Carol (Claude) Croft, Pat (Todd) Hammond, Hillery Windham, Jr. He is also survived seven grandchildren, Celena (Hunter) Arrowood, Zach Gainey, Justin Morrell (Brittany), Clay (Kristy) Morrell, Carl Croft, Will Hammond, Nancy Hammond and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Emma Thompson and his sister, Phyllis Rostron.

The family of Mr. Thompson would like to give a special thanks to the McLeod Hospice House in Florence for the wonderful care and support that they provided.

In honor of Pookie, memorials may be to Newman Swamp United Methodist Church at PO Box 218 Lamar, SC 29069.
