Althea Collins Roberts, age 100, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. A graveside service for Mrs. Roberts will be held in Grove Hill Cemetery at 3:30pm on Friday, May 24th. The service will be officiated by her son, Rev. Lloyd J. Roberts and directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Althea was born in Horry County on November 24, 1923, she is the daughter of the late Kemp Collins and Lillie Mae Johnson Collins. Mrs. Roberts worked as a long distance telephone operator also known as a "Hello Girl" for Southern Bell. Althea loved listening to Gospel music and was a long-time member of Freedom Baptist Church and was part of the Win Some Sunday School Class.
Surviving Althea are her children, Willie V. (Alice) Roberts of Florence, Rev. Lloyd J. (Pat) Roberts of Hollywood, Sylvia Windham of Lamar, Carol (Laverne) Kiker of Darlington, nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and two great-greatgrandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Archie Collins of Sumter.
In addition to her parents, Althea is preceded in death by her husband, William Roberts, and siblings, Ismay "Irene" Hodge, Vernon Collins, Nelson Collins and Lloyd Collins.
