Allen "Hutch" Hutchinson, 61, of Darlington, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018, at his residence, surrounded by the love of his family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3pm on Friday, March 9, 2018, at First Church of God, 620 N. Main Street, Darlington. Visitation for family and friends will follow Hutch's service.
Hutch was born July 22, 1956, in Darlington to Frances Erwin and grew up in Southern California.
Hutch served in the United States Army National Guard with the 11th Bravo Unit and went on to actively serve in the United States Navy in Intelligence.
In 1994, Hutch found his niche, graduating Basic Jail from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy and worked as a certified correctional officer for the Florence County Detention Center. However, he was looking for something more. Returning to SCCJA in 1997, Hutch received his Basic Law Enforcement certification and began serving with the Florence County Sheriffs Office as a Deputy Sheriff. Hutch spent most of his 23 years devoted to the citizens of Darlington County with the Darlington County Sheriffs Office, carrying the rank of Corporal and Sergeant and was also a field-training officer. During his law enforcement career, Hutch served with the Lamar Police Dept. with the rank of Lieutenant, served with the Georgetown County Sheriffs Office, and served as a Sergeant with the Hartsville Police Dept. However, his heart always belonged to the Darlington County Sheriffs Office until his bittersweet retirement in 2017. Pursuing his life long passion for law enforcement, he excelled in every aspect, receiving numerous certifications, awards and left each and every one of his brothers and sisters in blue a story that can only be told by them.
Hutch loved spending much of his time outdoors, working in his yard, reading and playing his guitar. He strived to learn something new everyday, as he felt you could never learn enough. Hutch also loved attending First Church of God in Darlington.
Hutch was always known to never leave you without a story, told it like it was, shot straight from the hip and was known for his many "Hutchisms."
Hutch is survived by his wife, Dawn Michelle (Darlington) daughters JoDonna Hutchinson (Gatlin) Askins (Hartsville, SC) Debreyana Singleton (Columbia, SC) sons Pierson Singleton (Key West, FL) Jordan Singleton (Fairfield, CA) Travis Hutchinson and Tyler Hutchinson.
sisters Debra (Sid) Hultquist (Apple Valley, CA) Wanda (Rick) Graham (Clearwater, FL)
grandchildren Elias Mietzner (Waldorf, MD) Grace Mietzner (Clinton, MD) Matthew Jai Hiracheta Jr. (Hartsville) and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Brent Hanks and his team at the Duke Medical University Cancer Center.
