Darlington- George Henry Stokes, age 77, died Friday, July 16, 2010 at the McLeod Hospice House. Funeral Services were 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 18 in the Chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery, Florence, SC.
Born June 17, 1933 in Florence County, he is the son of the late Foster W. Stokes and Edith Jernigan Stokes Anderson. Mr. Stokes served his country in the Air Force, and then worked for Darlington Veneer until his retirement . Prior to his residency at Medford Nursing Home, George enjoyed going fishing. He also loved spending time with his family. He was a member of High Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are his sister, Carrie S. Isgett of Darlington, four nieces: Terri (Donald) McElveen, Virginia Ann Adams, Debra Lynn Milliken, Lisa Marie (Robert) Gainey; five nephews: Robbie (Carol) Isgett, Joey (Tracy) Harrison, Charles B (Peggy) Weatherford, Michael C. (Maria) Weatherford, David A. (Tina) Weatherford.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Weatherford, a nephew, Allen W. Weatherford, and stepfather, Jody Anderson.
