Myrtle Atkinson Jolly age 97, died Friday June 4, 2010 in a local hospital. Funeral Services will be 4:00 Sunday June 6, 2010 in the Chapel of Belk Funeral Home, with interment following in Grove Hill Cemetery.
Born September 13, 1912 in Darlington, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Henry Atkinson and the late Lillie Hannah Melton Atkinson. Mrs. Jolly worked alongside her late husband, L.C. Jolly, at Jolly’s Food Store. Myrtle was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church until her marriage, when she then transferred her membership to First Baptist Church in Darlington and taught the 4 and 5 year olds for 53 years. She more recently attended Bethea Baptist Church. Myrtle’s contagious smile will be missed by many.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great-nephews, special caregivers, Paul and Betty Dudley and Russell Atkinson. The family would also like to thank the staff at Bethea for their special care, and a special nurse, Trish McKixtrick.
She was preceded in death by all of her siblings.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at Belk Funeral Home.
