Rev. Johnnie Melvin Padgett
02/28/1930 - 2/13/2006






DARLINGTON- Rev. Johnnie Melvin Padgett, age 75, died Monday, February 13, 2006 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday, February 16, 2006 in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment being held at 4:00 in Bamberg Memorial Gardens, Bamberg, SC.

Rev. Padgett was born in Valley, Alabama, son of the late Johnnie M. and Pearl Carter Padgett. He served in the National Guard and then went on to preach at many churches, including: Freewill Baptist in Orangeburg, Calvary Baptist in Marion in which he organized, Gantt Street Baptist in Cayce, County Line Baptist in Rayle, GA, Beulah Baptist in Branchville, and Faith Baptist in Darlington. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church.

Surviving are five sons: Robert M. Padgett of Warsaw, NC, Johnny R. Padgett of Mullins, Ronald Padgett of Lexington, Curtis D. Padgett of Darlington, Kaleb Padgett of Florence, six daughters: Nancy Padgett of Thompson, GA, Inez Stroud of Mullins, Tommie E. Haselden of Dillon, Melody Elders of Orangeburg, Julie “Sunshine” Black of Florence, Mandy Sue Padgett of Darlington, 21 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, a brother, William F. Padgett of Dearing, GA.

Rev. Padgett was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie Hughes Padgett, his second wife, Sue Watts Padgett, a son, Oral M. “Pee-Wee” Padgett, two brothers: Glen M. and Bobby C. Padgett, and three sisters: Erma McAlhaney, Edna Carter and Eva Griffin.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday night at Belk Funeral Home.
