Walter McKnight Obituary
Darlington - Walter Reese McKnight, age 79, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018. A memorial service will be held 5:00 p.m. Friday, January 19th in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
Born June 18, 1938, Walter is the son of the late Reese McKnight and Ethel Cassidy McKnight. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and in the Navy. He worked at Clanton's Auto Sales, was owner and operator of McKnight's Auto Glass and Body Shop, and then worked at Darlington Raceway. He was a talented fisherman, hunter, and golfer. Walter was a member of the American Legion, and the VFW. He was a Shriner, a Freemason, and was a member of many hunting clubs.
Surviving are his wife, Doti M. McKnight of Darlington; his son, Walter Ryan (Melissa) McKnight of Charleston; his daughter, Misi King (Vince) Monterosso of Darlington; his grandchildren, John "Jace" Austin Cox and Jonah Ellis Cox; his brother Wesley McKnight of Darlington; his sisters, Faye McGuigan of Florence, Carolyn "Sissy" Schwichtenberg of Orangeburg, and Bettie Foster of Florence; his brother-in-law, Gary (Lisa) Michell of Florida; his sister-in-law, Diana (Mike) Tanner of Florence, Janie (Sam) McClung of Tennessee, and Tammy Peterson of Darlington. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; a special nephew, Gil (Dede) McKnight; and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Irene, Jim, Willis, Ernest, and Bill.
